| Who Is Novo?
During the course of this next year, we will be teaming up with a ministry group called, "Novo." Novo ministries is a faith-based inner-city ministry with the goal of reaching and impacting the lives of children from at-risk, under-resourced communities. Their staff and volunteers facilitate over 15 programs around Oklahoma City. They are a resource to other ministries and churches to assist them in reaching the children of the inner city.
| The Work
Gateway will start with a Day Camp that runs from July 26th through July 30th. This Day Camp will take place in the Northridge Apartment complex ran by our teenagers and a few adults. This is a local mission trip project for our teenagers. Everyday they will lead the day camp from 1pm - 5pm. This is a great way to begin our partnership and develop that relationship with Northridge apartment complex.
Gateway will also be starting a Bible Club in the fall. Starting in September, we will have a weekly Bible Club hosted by the adults and teenagers of Gateway. This will be held each week at Northridge Apartment Complex. This will be for children grades K-5th grade. We look forward to seeing much fruit as God begins to work within this new ministry.
| Training
Novo Ministries'' training was developed by Novo's founder, Valerie Sherrer, and Tara McLain, the Education Director. The Basic Training covers essential elements of working with inner-city children and communicating Biblical truths to them. Sessions like counseling, teaching with music, Bible memory, and discipline are included in the Basic Training. The Reaching our Inner City Training was designed for individuals who are working with inner-city children and desire to gain a great understanding of inner-city culture and how to be most effective in their role as a teacher, mentor, or other position. This comprehensive training covers topics such as Oklahoma City's gangs, inner-city culture, current and popular media, developing relationships with children and parents, education, and more.
