As a “Christian” church we hold to some specific beliefs about who Jesus was and is and how we can be in relationship with God through him. We believe that Jesus was born as a human being some 2,000 years ago in a small town in Israel. He grew as a young boy, with all the needs any young boy would have, into a man, perhaps working with his father as a carpenter.
However, we also believe that before he was born as a human being, he eternally existed as a part of God. As the Bible tells us, he chose to leave the environment of heaven and his position with God the Father, and willingly chose to be born as a human, to live life on this earth as the one and only human to ever live a sinless life and ultimately to die a horrible death in order that we might be able to be in a relationship with God the father.
Jesus' death on the cross’ paid the price for humanity's sin. Three days after his death, God raised Jesus to life, an event witnessed by over 500 people of that day, to show us that this death would allow us back into relationship with God.
Because of sin, we are separated from relationship with God. However, with the death and resurrection of Jesus, we can now be in relationship with God by asking Jesus to save us from the consequence of sin – that separation – and choosing to live a life serving God through this relationship.
